n West Down may have crashed out of the IIBA Men’s Inter-zone Championship in the first round last weekend, but their ladies will be hoping to fare better on Saturday.

With most off the big guns - including holders Donegal - not going into action until the second round on December 5, West Down will carry the favourites tag into their home meeting with South Down.

It’s been a number of years since both hoisted the McElroy Cup.

West Down paraded the trophy back in 2006, but South Down’s one and only success came four years before that.

The winners will earn home advantage over South Tyrone next month.

IIBA Ladies Inter-zone Championship, first round: East Antrim v Western; North Eastern v Northern; West Down v South Down.

Round two (Saturday, December 5): East Antrim or Western v North Eastern or Northern. West Down or South down v South Tyrone; Monaghan v Donagal; Mid down v Oriel; Cork v Foyle; Lisburn v North West; Mid Ulster v Mid Tyrone; Armagh v Mid Antrim.
