Monaghan manager Malachy O’Rourke has named full-back Drew Wylie and left half-forward Darren Hughes in his side for Sunday’s Ulster SFC clash against Cavan.
The experienced duo have been struggling with injuries of late with Hughes sustaining a foot injury on club duty with Scotstown while Wylie picked up a thigh injury in the run up to the Division One semi-final versus Dublin.
Colin Walshe is included in the 26-man squad after recovering from the cruciate knee ligament injury he suffered last August in the All-Ireland quarter-final. Owen Lennon could make his first appearance for the Farney County since last season’s FL Division Two final after been named on the bench.
Cavan have suffered a blow with Killian Clarke forced out of the game. An injury sustained by the Shercock man has forced manager Terry Hyland to reshuffle his defence ahead of the quarter-final meeting at Kingspan Breffni Park.
Monaghan manager O’Rourke is expecting a battle, and he expects Cavan to be confident despite the fact that Monaghan played in a division above them this spring.
“It’s a local derby and in local derbies in any sport form goes out the window. It’s all on the day and who performs best,” he said.
“It’s about who reacts mentally to the crowd and to different things that happen. Sometimes games like this can take on a life of their own and that’s what we have to be prepared for.”
