The Stena Line Belfast Giants fell to consecutive defeats with a shootout loss on Sunday at home against the Dundee Stars.
With Andrew Dickson starting in net for the Giants, the home side led 2-0 after the opening period through goals from Radja and Walser however the Stars took the game to penalty shots with Lou Dickenson scoring the winner.
The game started well for the Giants following a day of travel back to Belfast from Cardiff, outshooting the visitors 10-4 in the first period and their dominance showed on the scoreboard also. The Giants opened the scoring at 4:56, with Brandon Benedict finding Mike Radja in space, who slotted the puck past Vlastimil Lakosil in the Dundee net. By the end of the first period, it was 2-0 as Derrick Walser doubled the Giants lead, assisted by Benedict and Radja at 17:05.
The Stars made a change in goal midway through the second period at 31:05 and three minutes later, they got on the scoresheet with Bobby Chaumont scoring at 33:13, assisted by Lou Dickenson and Curtis Leinweber.
Just 38 seconds into the third period, it was 2-2. Bret Switzer’s pass to Justin Faryna split the Giants defence and the Dundee player rounded Andrew Dickson to pull the Stars level.
Both teams cancelled each other in five minutes of overtime and it was the Stars who took the extra point thanks to a shootout win following Dickenson’s sudden death goal.
Elsewhere, Guillaume Doucet scored twice as the Cardiff Devils beat the Manchester Storm 6-2 to keep pace with Elite League leaders the Nottingham Panthers.
Nottingham beat the Sheffield Steelers 4-1, David Clarke, Evan Mosey, Geoff Waugh and Andy Bohmbach scoring.
The Coventry Blaze earned a rare victory as they beat the Braehead Clan 6-3, while the Edinburgh Capitals beat the Fife Flyers 4-2.
