Randalstown Hockey Club First XI are preparing for one of the biggest dates on the local hockey calendar this Boxing Day.
The local girls beat Belfast Harlequins 4-2 to set up a festive showdown with Queen’s in the Denman Ulster Shield.
Randalstown started with all guns blazing. Within the first two minutes Jayne McGrillen took her opportunity at the top of the circle and blasted the ball off the back board for Randalstown’s first goal. Randalstown continued this high intensity on a stunned Harlequins with Nicole Moore intercepting a Harlequins pass and punishing them with a fabulous finish.
Emma Clyde sent a superb pass down the line to Katy Aston, who worked well with Nicole Moore to secure Randalstown’s third goal before half-time.
In the second half, Randalstown won a penalty corner which Katherine McDowell converted with a fantastic strike.
Harlequins pulled a goal back from open play and struck again for their second from a corner, but it wasn’t enough in the end as Randalstown prevailed.
