Coventry Blaze will face Sheffield Steelers in Sunday’s Elite League Play-off final after they overcame Belfast Giants 3-2 after penalty shots on Saturday evening.

Giants, beaten in the final for the past two years, went ahead through Jeff Mason at 11.21 but Justin DaCosta levelled for Blaze just 29 seconds later following a review.

Ray Sawada restored Giants’ lead at 29.15, but Blaze hit back once more with Jereme Tendler tapping in the loose puck at 41.52.

Giants goaltender Carsen Chubak made a brilliant double save to deny Steven Goertzen on a breakaway and also foiled Ryan O’Marra with 1.33 remaining in overtime.

The match moved to a shoot-out and Ben Arnt had the only successful attempt for Blaze, who reached the final for the first time since 2008 when they lost 2-0 to Steelers.
