Braehead Clan surprisingly ended Belfast Giants’ four-match winning run with a 4-1 away victory on Tuesday night at SSE Arena, Belfast.
James Desmarais followed a goalless first period by giving Belfast the lead, but two strikes from Stefan Meyer and another from Ben Davies put Braehead in control.
Captain Matt Keith, one day after becoming a father for the first time, scored with seven minutes remaining to secure victory and avenge Braehead’s 4-3 overtime defeat by Belfast on Sunday evening.
Belfast remain fourth in the table, six points behind first-placed Cardiff with three games in hand.
Belfast have an immediate opportunity to get back to winning ways in Wednesday’s home game against Dundee.
Coventry Blaze won 5-3 against second-placed Nottingham Panthers.
Chris Lawrence gave the visitors the lead in the seventh minute but Blaze hit back through Mike Quesnele, Jordan Pietrus and Drew Fisher to lead 3-1 at the end of the first period.
Juraj Kolnik pulled one back for the Panthers in the third, before Brett Robinson made it 4-2.
David Clarke replied again for the visitors but Fisher secured victory by scoring in an empty net in the 59th minute.
