ICE HOCKEY: Cardiff Devils claim Elite League title after beating Belfast Giants

Andrew Hotham’s powerplay strike with 20 seconds to go gave the Devils the vital win that saw them claim their second Elite League title in-a-row.

Last night’s clash was an enthralling encounter with both sides playing a free flowing game with one moment of magic likely to prove to be the difference between the sides and Hotham’s goal proved to be just that.

Colin Shields opened the scoring with a nice back door finish, assisted by Steve Saviano at 13:22.

However the Devils struck back almost immediately when Joey Martin, assisted by Matt Pope, converted a 2-on-1 chance at 14:03.

Matt Pope gave the Devils the go-ahead goal, unassisted, at 33:17. before Spiro Goulakos equalised at 37:13.

Then Hotham struck the winner.
