Neil Booth may have departed the international bowls circuit last season, but there is another Booth now emerging - his son Andrew!
He is one off 12 players selected for next month’s inaugural Under-18 Test Series against Scotland.
Andrew is joined in the squad by his Old Bleach team mates, Sam Barkley and Stephen Kirkwood, who will be playing on their home green for the Scots visit on Sunday, August 25.
Philip Ward (St James’s Gate), Adam McKeown (Mossley), Cameron Gaw (Donaghadee), Jack Moffett (Rathfriland), David McConnell (Coleraine), Ryan McElroy (Dunbarton), Adam Jones (Portglenone), Matthew Hastings (Bangor), Anthony Clyde (Dunluce), complete the panel
Irish Under-18 boss Michael Nutt is thrilled with the new date on the bowls calendar.
“It’s a tremendous boost at this level to be competing against one of the strongest nations in the world,” he said. “It’s a massive step forward in the development of the young players in our country.
“Scotland have been focusing on youth development for many years . . . that’s why they are so successful when it comes to the big tournaments.
“So our boys can only benefit from competing against a top nation. This tournament will help take them a step forward to the Under-25 team and, then, hopefully on to the senior set-up..”
