Darren McCurry’s equalising free with the last kick of the game denied Derry a first win of this season’s Allianz League campaign in Omagh on Saturday.
Tyrone came from four points down in the last seven minutes, with the dismissal of Derry full-back Niall Holly after 64 minutes inspiring the home side to raise their game.
Derry thought they’d hit the crucial score in a tight game when sub Terence O’Brien scored a goal with eight minutes to go, but Tyrone responded with a Seán Cavanagh free and points from Mattie Donnelly and PJ Lavery to get to within a point with the two minutes of allotted injury-time almost up.
McCurry then converted a free to ensure the north-west rivals shared the spoils in a game played in driving win and rain.
On Sunday, Ulster champions Donegal survived a Cork comeback in Ballyshannon.
Michael Murphy was sent off in the 51st minute, but helped by Martin O’Reilly’s four points, Donegal won by just a single point.
Monaghan meanwhile, suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Mayo.
