Neil Weir and Jessica Craig took the major honours at the Crawfordsburn 5K Trail Race. The event promoted by North Down AC attracted almost 200 competitors.
Weir, the Greyabbey winner, was quickly at the front along with Jamie Budde and David McNeely. The Willowfield man made his effort in the closing stages to come home nine seconds clear of Budde from the promoting club and Newcastle’s McNeely.
Ryan Andrews and top Junior Scott McKeag gave Ballydrain the next two places. Amando Bamisile was second Junior.
Jessica Craig of North Down was in a class of her own in the Ladies. She led from early on and crossed the line fifty five seconds before Ballydrain’s Denise Logue who was runner up for the second year in succession. Jodie Smith also North Down came third with Anna Blake of Willowfield leading the Juniors.
Friday night’s action is at Loughry College near Cookstown where Sperrin Harriers promote the 14th Stanley Reid Memorial 5 Miles which is sponsored by Henry Brothers of Magherafelt. 300 plus are expected.
Aaron Meharg and Glen Donnelly will be prominent in the race won last year by Neil Johnston while Heather Foley the winner of Tandragee a week ago can defend her Ladies title ahead of Gemma Turley.
The main event starts at 7.30pm with the family fun run at 6.45pm. The nominated charity is Cookstown Community Cancer Charity.
