Defending champions Paul Pollock of Annadale and Kerry O’Flaherty of Newcastle are confirmed starters for Saturday’s Podium 4 Sport Seeley Cup 10K promoted by Willowfield Harriers at Ormeau Park.
The pair moved to the country on Sunday and both qualified for the European Championships in France next month.
Pollock came third at Santry behind Mick Clohisey and John Coghlan. He ran a personal best previously at the Berlin marathon and has already competed in Commonwealth and World Championships. Kerry O’Flaherty finished strongly on Sunday to take fourth in the Ladies Championship.
That race was won by double European champion Fionnuala McCormack.
She ran in the steeplechase at the World Championships in Beijing after setting a best of 9:42.51 at Letterkenny which qualified her for the Rio Olympics. She will be seeking her sixth victory in the Seeley.
The 1,000 limit for the race was amazingly reached with still three weeks to go. A full preview of the event will be in Saturday’s paper.
