Paul Pollock is making a return visit to the prestigious Payton Jordan Invitational Meeting at Stanford, California on Saturday.
The Northern Ireland Half Marathon record holder clocked 22:32.18 for 10,000 metres last year at the venue just outside Dermot Donnelly’s time of 23:32.15 set in Spain in 1999.
He recently ran second in the Reading Half Marathon which included the England Championship then won the Queen’s 5K before coming second again at the Omagh Half Marathon all within the space of six days.
Paul competed in the European Indoor 3000 and was in the Commonwealth Final at 10000 among his rivals today is double Euro medallist Andy Vernon a regular at the Antrim Cross Country.
Meanwhile, Northern Ireland 100 and 200 record holder Amy Foster is on the Irish team competing in the 4x100 at the IAAF World Relay Championships in the Bahamas on Sunday.
A top eight finish will qualify the team for the Worlds in Beijing and the Olympics next year in Rio.
Foster, Phil Healy and Sarah Lavin all members of the 43.84 record breaking quartet in Zurich are joining by Catherine McManus and Steph Creaner. The USA are hot favourites.
Elsewhere, there is big local interest in Saturday’s IMC Greystones Track and Field meeting with all middle distance events being paced.
Andrew Wright, James O’Hara and Ruari Finnegan will feature in the 1500 while the top two in the Titanic race Conor Duffy and Scott Rankin are joined by Declan Reed, Neil Johnston, Martin Cox and Chris Madden in a 5000 which includes John Coghlan and Brandon Hargreaves. Duncrue winner JOhn Frazer is the pacer.
On the Ladies side Emma Mitchell has medal chances in the 1500 while Rachel Gibson, Amy Hamill and Aife McSheffrey are in the 800.
