Paul Pollock will be favourite to win the UK Indoor 3,000 metres title at Sheffield this weekend as he looks forward to the Europeans in Prague.
He already has the qualification time for the Euros after winning in 7:59.25 at the same venue earlier. The world marathoner also clocked a useful 4:06.92 for the mile at Lee Valley in another victory.
Chief opposition to Pollock will come from Universities cross country champion Jonathan Hay who has a best of 8:03.35 for the indoor distance. Another personal best should be on the cards for Pollock.
Ben Reynolds in his first indoor race for three years will be hoping to reach the Irish qualification for Europe in the 60m hurdles. Gerald O’Donnell has already clocked 7.73 last weekend.
Amy Foster recovering from illness just lost out to Phil Healy in the Irish Universities 60m and will be hoping to reverse the placings and get the Euro standard of 7.36.
Kerry O’Flaherty completes the quartet of local performers as the Commonwealth steeplechaser goes over 3000m.
