Season gets up and running at Icebreaker Forestry Rally

The 2016 Northern Ireland stage rally season gets into gear on Saturday with the Carey Cleaning Machines Icebreaker Forestry Rally and the organising club Mid Antrim has assembled a quality entry.

Many of the leading drivers have entered and seeded at number one is Derek McGarrity with his Mini WRC, while Philip Morrow will start at number driving a Mitsubishi EVO.

Multiple champion Kenny McKinstry is at number three and the Banbridge ace will drive a Subaru WRC.

The Slieveanorra forest complex will be the venue for the high speed action, it is more than six years since it was last used for rallying and two stages will be used. Slieveanorra itself is some eight miles in length and the shorter Beaghs stage is two miles in length.

Each of these stages will be completed three times providing a total of 30 stage miles and just 55 road miles.

Rally HQ, scrutiny and service will be based at Con Magees GAA Grounds, Glenravel.
