Simone Magill has won the Euro Electrix Northern Ireland Women’s Football Association’s elite award.
The young Northern Ireland international was voted Player of the Year at the League’s glittering awards dinner at the Tullyglass Hotel, Ballymena.
And to cap a wonderful evening the Magherafelt teenager, who plays for Mid Ulster, doubled up with the Top Goalscorer Award following a sharpshooting summer that saw her total 18 goals in the Premier Division.
It is the second time she has lifted the award, having won it two years ago at the League’s inaugural awards evening.
“I am very pleased and honoured to be voted the top player,” said ‘Sunnie’.
“There are many great players in the League and to finish above them is special. I am fortunate to thrive on the hard work of my teammates and the level of coaching we receive at Mid Ulster and it is credit to them also that I won. I thank those who voted for me. Yes, it was a nice feeling to win it again.”
Not only does Simone play for Northern Ireland’s senior team, she also captains the U-19 side and closed her playing year in dynamic fashion, leading the side to qualification in the UEFA U-19s tournament.
In the qualifiers in Hungary she scored against the host nation in a 3-2 victory, popped in two goals to defeat Poland 2-0 and slammed in a hat-trick against Lithuania in a 4-0 stroll.
Northern Ireland will now face Iceland, Portugal and Finland in the Elite rounds in Portugal next April.
The 200 guests, officials, managers and players who flooded into the hotel for the League’s end-of-season glittering occasion were greeted by a dazzling display of trophies that were on offer for the numerous prizewinners.
