Talented Brian Campbell looking to win at Silent Valley event

A field of 300 plus is expected for Saturday’s Born 2 Run Dambusters Half Marathon at the Silent Valley. The event includes the last round of the Pure Running - ChampionChip Ireland Series.

Former triple Northern Ireland champion Brian Campbell from Willowfield can add victory here to his Ards and Dervock successes. He has taken a strangle hold on the series.

Gary Henderson second in the last two rounds, Neil Weir, Brian Young, Richard Coey, Mark Walker, Gareth Lyons and 10,000 metres champion Stephen Morris will all be in the chase for top places.

Karen Alexander won the last event at Groomsport and can complete her double ahead of runner up Laura Graham. Ultra star Gillian Cordner, Amanda Perry and Gillian Logan can be next best.

The action starts in the Silent Valley at 11 o’clock.

And Alan Bogle can score another success in the Springwell promotion of the Downhill Demense 5 Miles Trail Race near Castlerock.

Bogle from City of Derry has dominated the event recently and should win from Chris McGuinness, Pius McIntyre and Alex Brennan.

The in form Gemma Turley will start favourite for a home win in the Ladies where she faces holder Rachel Gibson and clubmate Gillian Wasson with Ciara Toner also likely to feature.

The race starts at Lyons Gate Mussenden and 1 o’clock.

Meanwhile the local track action is at the Mary Peters Track on Saturday and Sunday with the Northern Ireland and Ulster Combined Events Championship, Team Trophy and 10,000 Metres Championship.

The Combined Competition is for Seniors and U13, U15 and U17 Boys and Girls.

There will be a number of Open events with the first day ending with 4x100 Relays.

Saturday’s events begin at 10 o’clock with the 10,000m at 2.15pm while tomorrow the start is 10.30am with the Decathlon 1500 climaxing the action.
