Sandown’s Celebration Chase on the final day of the National Hunt season is to be renamed this year as the bet365 AP McCoy Celebration Chase.

McCoy will officially be crowned champion jockey for the 20th time at the meeting on April 25, and could have his final rides before retirement.

The two-mile feature has been won for the last two years by Sire De Grugy, with the renewal 12 months ago being the first as a Grade One.

Rupert Trevelyan, London Regional Director for Jockey Club Racecourses, said: “The bet365 Jump Finale has become one of our most popular race meetings. Not only is it a fantastic day of racing, it provides a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the champions of the season and this year the career of a true legend, AP McCoy.

“We are thrilled that our sponsors, bet365 have agreed to the race name change to honour him in this way”

Steve Ibberson of bet365 said: “We are proud to be associated with the Jump Finale at Sandown and naturally wanted to honour AP McCoy in some way. Renaming the Celebration Chase seemed fitting as we celebrate his astonishing career.”
