A wrong tyres choice on his Peugeot T16 hindered Craig Breen on the qualifying stage for the opening round of the FIA European Rally Championship in Austria.
Breen was first to tackle the two kilometre stage which was won by the Polish driver Kaeitan Kaitanowicz at the wheel of a Ford Fiesta R5 with a time of one minute twenty two point eights seconds.
Next up was Robert Consani in a Peugeot 207 S2000 and this despite a moment before the flying finish.
Rounding off the top three was Alexey Lukyanuk in a Ford Fiesta R5, an outstanding performance as prior to this event he had little time to prepare with the car.
Kaitanowicz by virtue of winning the qualifying stage gets to select his running position with the start of the event proper today.
Meanwhile on the local rally scene, Kirkistown circuit will be the venue for the Winter Stages Rally which will also feature the opening round of the Junior Rally Championship on Saturday January 17.
