Four Northern Ireland-based athletes have been selected on the Irish team for the European Cross Country Championships in Hyeres, France on December 13.

Paul Pollock is rewarded for his third place in the Irish Championships with a position on the Men’s side, which will be led by Mick Clohissey and John Cochlan. Kerry O’Flaherty, fourth at Santry, is in the Ladies squad, which could repeat last year’s bronze medals.

Double European champion Fionnuala McCormack and fellow marathon star Lizzie Lee spearhead the side.

Banbridge girl Emma Mitchell joins Shona Heaslip in the Under 23 selection while James Edgar the Ulster and Irish Under 18 champion is on a strong Junior Men’s sextet.

Meanwhile, sixteen-year-old Jack Agnew struck gold at the Paralympic School Games at Natal, Brazil.

The English athletics 1500 champion added the 400 metres wheelchair title in the T54 class with a polished display. Agnew has two more events to go with the 100 and 200 metres.
