Armagh lifted the Senior Cup for the first time when they defeated Dunagnnon 2-0 in Saturday’s final at Havelock Park.
Niall mcCool’s side fully deserved their win which was their third over Dungannon this season.
Both league game finished 1-0 but the presence of Lucy McKee in the A rmagh line up gave her team an added edge.
The Ireland Under 21 international is back home from england for the Christmas break and her importance was illustrated by the fact she hit both the goals.
Otherwise there wasn’t a lot between the sides and Dungannon threatened with a few half chances in the second half without putting the keeper under too much pressure.
The opening 20 minutes were uneventful but Dungannon forced the game’s first penalty corner a few minutes later.
Unfortunately they were unable to get a shot on goal and Armagh broke quickly to the other end of the pitch to launch a swift counter attack.
McKee worked her way into a shooting position on the right hand side of the circle and sent a strong shot crashing into the corner of the net of the post for the opening goal.
Four minutes from the break, McKee got her second when she pounced on a rebound and reverse sticked the ball high into the net.
Dunagnnon had a chance to pull a goal back five minutes after the break when Karen Elliott’s cross from the left was met by Samantha Kelly but Rhinnaon Murdy in the Armagh goal did just enough to avert the danger.
At the other end, Kathryn Glass hit the post after a Christine Russell shot had fallen into her path following a penalty corner.
Kelly was again denied by Murdy but after surviving those minor scares Armagh finished strongly forcing a couple of set pieces by Dunagnnon keeper Victoria Kerr was equal to the task.
