Ballymena Hockey Club landed their second Ulster Senior Cup triumph in three years on Saturday.

The Braid ladies secured the trophy with a dramatic penalty shoot-out win over Raphoe, after the final at Coleraine had finished deadlocked at a goal apiece.

Goalkeeper Joanne Davis emerged as the heroine for Ballymena with a superb performance in which she saved a penalty flick during normal time before stopping three Raphoe flicks in the shootout.

Emma Gillespie had given Ballymena the lead in the 27th minute but the Donegal side had levelled within three minutes after Leanne Patterson finally found a way past Davis.

Neither side was able to fashion another goal in the remainder of normal or extra time and the outcome was settled on penalties with Ballymena celebrating at the end.
