Dean Harrison will ride the new Mar-Train Yamaha YZF-R1M in anger on the roads for the first time this weekend at the Ian Watson Spring Cup meeting at Oliver’s Mount, Scarborough.
The Bradford rider, who joined the Ulster team on a two-year deal to spearhead Yamaha UK’s official international road racing assault, has described the next generation R1 one as the ‘best bike I’ve ever ridden’.
The Lightweight TT winner has a solid record at the North Yorkshire circuit, where Harrison finished as the runner-up twice behind circuit specialist Guy Martin in the Spring Cup meeting last April.
“I can’t wait to get started,” Harrison said. “We’ve had three really productive tests and are a lot further on than I expected to be at this stage.
“The R6 is even better than last year and the R1M is just mega, easily the best bike I’ve ever ridden so it will be good to put it to the test and see how we get on.
“There is a good entry for this weekend so hopefully we can put on a good show for the fans and kick the year off with some good results.”
Mar-Train team principal Tim Martin is confident Harrison will be running at the front this weekend.
“I’m looking forward to a full road racing campaign and have high hopes for Dean, he proved last year that he can compete with the best riders on the biggest stage and Yamaha have now given him the tools to build on that,” said Martin.
“I am confident we won’t be far away in either class this weekend despite how early in the development stages we are with the YZF-R1M.”
Tyco BMW star Martin is also among the entries for the first road race of 2015.
