Hillsborough-based MWR Motorsports team owner Mark Webster is excited by the prospect of South African rider James Egan’s prospects in the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 Championship this year.
Egan will ride a brand Ducati Panigale 1199R with support from Ducati Corse-backed technical partners Moto Rapido as he prepares for his third season in the team.
Webster, who will also run Ireland’s Cody Nally in the Superstock 1000 series and Ulster pair Carl Phillips and Andrew Irwin in the Superstock 600 class, said: “There has been a lot of work behind the scenes to make this happen over the winter and it’s great to be able to launch this new project together with Steve Moore from Moto Rapido and team sponsors The Pawson Group.
“I am sure with all this in place the new Ducati Panigale 1199R will be one of the strongest packages out on the Superstock grid this season. I think James’s style will really suit the new bike and we are confident of hitting the ground running,” he added.
“To be racing a Ducati really does give you that special feeling only certain brands can, It’s hard to explain, it’s just special, and I know that’s how the whole team feels.”
Egan has been handed his best chance yet to challenge for championship honours and is fired up to make the most of the opportunity on the awesome Panigale.
“I’ve always wanted to ride a Ducati and to have this opportunity to race one is more than I could’ve imagined,” he said.
“The support we have from Ducati Corse-backed Moto Rapido sets us up with the most competitive package I’ve ever had and I’m going to give my all out on track.”
