After 2020 was wiped out due to COVID-19 this is the news that everyone has been waiting for and now at last there is light at the end of the tunnel and we can look forward to some racing next year.

The MX Nationals are scheduled for April 24th and 25th with the ACU British Championship meeting confirmed for June 27th.

“We are extremely pleased that the MX Nationals and ACU British are holding rounds at Desertmartin in 2021,” said Marlene Sykes on behalf of the club.

“We were set up to run the MX Nationals and ACU British in 2020 however due to the pandemic they were cancelled but I can assure everyone that it won’t be our fault if these meetings don’t run in 2021.

“We just can’t give any details yet whether it will be with spectators or behind closed doors but at least there will be racing at Desertmartin.

“If you want to keep motocross going in the country you have to give people some sort of hope and I think hosting these two major British meetings does exactly that.

“We are working very hard towards giving everyone something to look forward to and have been working very hard improving the track, especially the back end of the track, which will make it even better to race on.”

The Michelin MX Nationals will be a two day meeting with the ACU British being a very busy one day event for both adults and youth classes.

In 2020 with the ACU British championship cancelled it left the MX Nationals as the major series for riders to chase and as usual all our top competitors travelled the length and breadth of the mainland racing for championship points.

By the end of a very challenging season it was Ballyclare rider Martin Barr, riding his for his own private Team BRT KTM, who finished the year as runner up in the Pro MX1 MX Nationals championship and was crowned Scottish MX1champion.

“ Desertmartin is my favourite track for racing and with having a British championship over the past few years it was disappointing that the British and MX Nationals were cancelled, but it is absolutely brilliant to see it back on the calendar for 2021,” said a delighted Barr.

“It is something I am really looking forward to because the MX Nationals is a series that will give riders over here a shot at racing at a big event with not so much pressure compared to a full blown British championship.

“It is what the sport at home needs especially after the way 2020 went. I’ve no doubt everyone will support it as we are big petrol heads over here and its brilliant to see the two biggest championships in the UK coming over to race at one of the best tracks in the UK.

“Everyone I have spoken to is so excited to be able to come over and ride Desertmartin, at an amateur level. They never usually get the opportunity to race it but now that the MX Nationals are bringing their series over and everyone has watched the videos and saw all the good reports about the venue they are chomping at the bit to give it a go.

“Hopefully weather is decent for both meetings and all the local guys can put on a good show.”
