Ulster Grand Prix hat-trick hero Lee Johnston has been confirmed as a special guest at the 2016 Northern Ireland Motorcycle Festival.
Event promoters Billy and Marty Nutt’s annual show will run over three days next year from February 5-7 at the Eikon Exhibition Centre, Balmoral Park, on the former Maze Prison site.
Fermanagh man Johnston was one of the standout riders from 2015 after a magnificent run of results at the international road races.
Following a win in the Superstock race at the North West 200 and a brace of Supersport podiums, Johnston carried his form over to the Isle of Man TT, where he finished third in the Superstock race on the East Coast BMW behind Ian Hutchinson and Michael Dunlop.
A memorable year for the ‘General’ continued at the Ulster Grand Prix, where he stole the show with a hat-trick, winning both Supersport races and the Superstock event. He also finished third in the feature Superbike race, only 0.6 seconds behind race winner Bruce Anstey.
The Maguiresbridge man is the first big name to be announced for the eagerly anticipated show in February, with more headline acts set to be revealed over the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, the Temple club’s David Jefferies Memorial Supermoto event is set to prove a major attraction at the festival, taking place on the Saturday and Sunday, February 6-7, when a quality line-up will bid for honours.
Isle of Man TT star Michael Dunlop will perform demonstration laps in his Mk2 Ford Escort rally car and fans will have the chance to win a thrill ride with the 11-time Mountain Course winner, which won’t be for the faint-hearted.
All the major motorcycle manufacturers and dealerships will be represented under one roof and special discounted admission tickets are available now from most motorcycle dealerships throughout Northern Ireland.
The organisers have introduced free parking at the new venue at Balmoral Park, with admission costing only £12/15 euros or £6 for senior citizens, while children up to the age of 14 will be admitted free of charge.
Opening hours are Friday, February 5 from 2pm-10pm and 10am to 5pm on Saturday, February 6 and Sunday, February 7.
