MOTORSPORT: Adam Carroll signs with Jaguar for Formula E Championship

Former A1 GP Champion Adam Carroll has signed for Jaguar and the Portadown driver will lead the team which will mark the return of this famous name to motor racing and the high-profile FIA Formula E Championship.

The British team will evaluate three other drivers GP2 drivers including Mitch Evans and Alex Lynn plus Ford GT driver Harry Tincknell before the team announce who will partner Carroll on September 8.

Carroll is a good choice for the new Jaguar team as he has driven for them on their manufacturer test days. He also tested for Mahindra Racing, acting as their reserve driver in Buenos Aires, and was considered for a seat in Team Aguri for the 2015/2016 season.

His racing experience and Jaguar’s desire to field a British driver makes him the worthy choice for a full-time drive.

As the current F1 development driver for Williams Grand Prix, Lynn’s links to Jaguar’s Formula E campaign is no surprise as they have a partnership with Williams Advanced Engineering, who supply Formula E’s homologated battery technology.

However, given Lynn has ruled himself out of a third GP2 campaign, and his determination to secure an F1 seat, whether he is a realistic option for a full season in Formula E remains to be seen.

Mitch Evans, meanwhile, is enjoying a strong season in GP2, running second in the series and after four years in the class and with no apparent links to an F1 seat, a move to the all-electric series could prove particularly viable for him, given Formula E’s previous interest in the New Zealander.
