1948: Australian Don Bradman played his last innings on British soil in Aberdeen, scoring 123 against Scotland.

1999: Hampshire signed Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne as their overseas player in one of the most lucrative contracts agreed in County Championship history.

2004: Jaguar announced they would be pulling out of Formula One at the end of the season.

2009: England lost by 111 runs to Australia in the sixth NatWest one-day international at Trent Bridge. Australia took a 6-0 lead in the seven-match series, but were denied a whitewash three days later when England won the final match.

2014: Newcastle winger Jonas Gutierrez revealed he was having treatment after being diagnosed with testicular cancer in his native Argentina. He made a full recovery before being released by the Magpies at the end of the 2014-15 season.

2015: FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke was suspended from duty pending an investigation into allegations he was implicated in a World Cup tickets scheme. Swiss authorities earlier approved the extradition of former FIFA vice-president Eugenio Figueredo to the United States to face corruption charges.

2016: Iranian cyclist Bahman Golbarnezhad, 48, died following a crash in the men’s C4/C5 road race at the Rio Paralympics.

2018: Enzo Calzaghe, father and trainer of former undefeated boxing world champion Joe, died at the age of 69.

2019: Wales assistant coach Rob Howley was sent home from the Rugby World Cup in Japan due to a potential breach of betting rules.
