Tommy Bowe returns to playing with Ulster after long-term injury

British Lion winger Tommy Bowe will make his long awaited return to playing on Thursday afternoon in an '˜A' Inter-Provincial when Ulster face Munster in Naas.

Bowe suffered a serious knee injury in October during Ireland’s Rugby World Cup quarter-final defeat to Argentina.

It will be the Irish international’s first appearance in the Ulster jersey this season and if everything goes well when he starts against Munster today, he should be involved in the Guinness PRO12 game against Zebre on Saturday, April 16, in Parma.

Darren Cave captain’s the Ulster ‘A’ A side (sponsored by CD Group).

Ireland U20 star Johnny McPhillips, who signed a development contract with the Province earlier this week, will start at outhalf alongside Hughes Insurance Academy scrumhalf Dave Shanahan.

Sam Windsor will start in midfield with Cave, while Jacob Stockdale (left wing) and Mark Best (fullback) complete the backline.

Andy Warwick has overcome an illness and he will join John Andrew and Jonny Simpson in the front row. Academy duo Alex Thompson and John Donnan form an exciting second row combination and their performances will be closely monitored by Director of Rugby, Les Kiss.
