MALONE 20 CORINTHIANS 14
Malone made it two wins from three games as they came from 9-3 down at half time to beat Corinthians in an action packed game in the Gibson Park sunshine to move up to third in All Ireland League Ulster Bank Division 2A.
The turning point came on 50 minutes when the Galway side had flanker Sean Connolly sent off and Malone took advantage by scoring 17 points.
Corinthians thought they had opened the scoring on six minutes when from a catch and drive flanker Sean Connolly touched down but was ruled to have a foot in touch.
Malone were off side and from the penalty the Galway side went for the corner, they set up a driving maul and Connolly went over again but the referee adjudged the ball was held up.
Corinthians to the lead on 20 minutes when out half James Proctor kicked a penalty from just inside the Malone half.
Proctor doubled the visits advantage a minute later when he landed another penalty this one from the halfway line.
The game was delayed for 15 minutes for a serious looking injury to Malone hooker Dave Cave.
Proctor was off target with a long range penalty on 30 minutes but made amends a minute later with a successful kick from inside his own half.
Full back Mark O’Connor missed Malone’s first chance to put points on the board when he dragged a penalty wide.
Corinthians had flanker Ross Mooney yellow carded on 38 minutes and O’Connor scored from the resulting penalty with the aid of the upright to reduce the visitors lead to 9-3 at the break.
Corinthians were reduced to 14 men when Connolly was shown a red card for kicking Malone scrum half Shane Kelly in the head, O’Connor knocked over the resulting penalty.
Malone took the lead when they kicked a penalty to the corner, from the lineout the forwards powered replacement prop Gary Crawford over and O’Connor converted.
Full back Philip Noone finished off a slick handling move with the last play of the game to earn Corinthians a losing bonus point.
