A GrosvenorSelect side will play in the Ophir Rugby sevens this Saturday.
The tournament will take place at Magowan Park - the Cottonmount - Mallusk. (930am-1130am)
The Grosvenor players are affiliated to local churches in East Belfast and their tops are sponsored by T Hamilton Memorials on the Woodstock Road.
The event starts on Friday evening when an U16s tournament takes place commencing at 6.30pm with teams from Dromore, Civil Service, Ballynahinch, Bangor, Malone, Dungannon and host club Ophir competing.
Then on Saturday morning there will be an U18s tournament commencing at 9.30am with teams from Instonians, Belfast Met, Rainey, Randalstown, Lisburn and Banbridge and Ophir taking part.
The main tournament being held over the course of the afternoon commences at 1pm with teams from Ophir, Banbridge, Grosvenor, Civil Service, Ballynahinch, Randalstown, Portadown, Bangor, Ards, Malone, Dungannon and defending champions Larne all confirmed.
This event has been held annually since 1974 as the traditional start of the Rugby season.
This year we have the three competitions held over the course of the weekend culminating in the main competition with 12 teams competing for the title concluding at approx 5.30pm with the Mayor- representing the main event sponsor Newtownabbey Borough Council - presenting the winners with the Will Totten Memorial trophy.
As well as the guarantee of a great weekend’s rugby there will also be children’s entertainment, face painting and refreshments to make this a fabulous fun filled occasion for the entire family.
