The series will include personal stories on what each song means to him and how they influenced his chart-topping work.

Gary said: “I’ve dreamt of having my own radio show since I was a teenager, but no one would give me one.

“I’m very grateful to BBC Radio Ulster for the opportunity. I also realise that I’ve been given something that other DJs don’t get – which is free rein to play whatever the heck I want.

“Loving music feels like a life’s pursuit, and I’ve always wanted an opportunity to share my favourite songs on the radio. And you don’t know what you’ve let yourself in for because my music taste is all over the place. It’ll be a little mad musical journey through my brain.”

During the first programme, Gary talks about a surprise meeting with the singer of his all-time favourite track set up by his management as a surprise birthday treat.

He will also talk about the international voices in his record collection, why he loves hip hop, and the singer who inspired him to take vocal lessons and who he reckons has a voice greater than any other.

The Gary Lightbody Show – All Things All At Once begins on BBC Radio Ulster and on BBC Sounds on Sunday at 4pm.

The series is a Sketchy Production for BBC Radio Ulster, produced by David O’Reilly.
