If you go down to Ballymena Town TODAY, you’re sure of a big surprise as a trio of famous faces make a welcome return!

In a sure sign that better days are indeed ahead as we plan for the eventual reopening of our unique local retail sector, the Ballymena Bears - who have had a makeover during their well-earned break - will soon be on display at key locations around the town centre.

Keep your eyes peeled for the bear-y special visitors when you’re next in Ballymena and if you fancy taking a selfie with these local celebrities, remember to do so while adhering to the guidelines on social distancing and protecting public health. The bears have been glammed up for their return to public life, with a special tribute to our NHS and keyworker heroes who have been keeping us all safe during the Coronavirus lockdown.

Thanks to the creative flair of the Parks Staff at Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, particularly expert propagator William Dickson and colleague Andrew Clarke, the Ballymena Bears are ready to greet their adoring fans.

A Council spokesperson said: “If you’re taking a trip to Ballymena, where plans are being made to help our amazing local retailers prepare for a safe return to business in the coming weeks and months, take time to ‘paws-e’ for a social distancing selfie with our beloved bears!

“Council is working hard with businesses across Mid and East Antrim as we take the first tentative steps to recovery from the economic shock caused by the Coronavirus emergency, and we hope our community continues to show their support to helping local traders to get back on their feet. The Ballymena Bears always attract the interest of the community and even further afield, and we are delighted to welcome them back!”
