Fire crews are battling a major blaze at Great Victoria Street in Belfast.

It is believed the fire started just after 6pm at a three-storey property close to the Go Express filling station, on a part of Great Victoria Street leading up to Shaftesbury Square.

Shortly before 8pm, the fire brigade said seven vehicles were in attendence.

It said: “Despite challenging operational conditions caused by this evening’s high winds fire crews have successfully prevented fire from spreading to adjacent properties.

PSNI have closed a section of Great Victoria Street from Ventry Street to the junction with Shaftsbury Square as Fire crews will remain at the incident for a number of hours”
