Firm trade for entry of cull cows at Markethill

An entry of 110 cull cows at Markethill on Tuesday 12th January sold in another firm trade with well fleshed Friesian cows in particularly strong demand, selling from £95 to £114 for 656k at £750.

Top price friesians £970 for 876k (111). Beef-bred cows to £132 for 590k at £780. Main demand from £116 to £124 per 100 kilos. Second quality friesians cows from £80 to £90 per 100 kilos and the poorest types from £50 to £70 per 100 kilos. Aged bulls to £111 for 970k at £1075. Clean cattle to £150 for 630k at £945.

CALVES: The 130 calves sold in a steady trade. Bull calves (under five weeks old) to £395 for a Char. Main demand from £240 to £345 each. Good quality heifer calves from £190 to £190 for a Lim. Strong Friesian bulls (10 weeks old) from £90 to £150 each with younger lots from £30 to £70 each.
