Good entry of store cattle, weanlings and sucklers at Markethill

An entry of 600 store cattle, weanlings and sucklers at Markethill on Saturday 2nd July continued to sell in a very firm demand for all types. Buyers from throughtout Northern Ireland were in attendance.

BULLOCKS: The 210 store bullocks sold in a steady trade. Forward steers to £1220 for 616k from a Hilltown farmer (198). Main demand from £180 to £207 for 502k at £1040. Middleweight steers from £190 to £203 for 436k at £885 from a Dungannon farmer. Forward Friesian bullocks sold to £157 for 588k at £920. Main demand from £130 to £146 per 100 kilos. Middleweight friesians from £130 to £138 for 458k at £630 from a Crumlin farmer.

The forward heifers included several pens of finished heifers which returned very strong prices, well ahead of current deadweight. Top quality lots from £190 to £207 per 100 kilos with a top of £225 for 510k at 1145. Average good quality lots from £175 to £185 per 100 kilos. Top price £1190 for 578k (205). Over 50 heifers sold in excess of £1000 each. Good quality middleweight heifers sold to £249 for 390k at £870 from a Crumlin farmer. Main demand from £190 to £233 per 100 kilos. Second quality lots in good demand from £165 to £180 per 100 kilos.
