Threats have been made against housing workers in a republican-dominated part of north Belfast.

It is understood the employees were doing maintenance work in the New Lodge, a district where there is a notable dissident republican presence.

On Tuesday, the Housing Executive said: “We have just been informed of specific threats made to Housing Executive staff and to a contractor working in the New Lodge... we are now reviewing the provision of services to the blocks.”

It did not say what the threats were in relation to. It said it is seeking assurances from “local community representatives”.
