Man accused of murdering his mother in Porstewart to stand trial

A 33-year old man from Portstewart is to stand trial later this year on a single charge of murdering his mother.

Alun Kinney Evans has been charged with and denies killing his mother Margaret Evans in the Portstewart home they shared in June 2014.

At a previous hearing last September, Evans entered a ‘not guilty’ plea when he was charged with murdering his mother.

The 69-year old hairdresser, who was known as Margo, was found dead in their Knockancor Drive home on June 4, 2014.

During a brief hearing held at Antrim Crown Court, sitting in Belfast, on Friday, Mr Justice Tracey was informed that the trial - which is due to last two weeks - is due to commence on June 20.

Evans did not appear for today’s hearing.
