A 29-year-old man has been arrested by detectives probing a dissident republican murder bid against police in west Belfast in 2015.

Armoured plating and bulletproof glass saved the lives of the two officers inside a vehicle when they were ambushed.

The car was riddled with up to eight rounds.

Detective Chief Inspector Geoff Boyce said: “Detectives from the PSNI’s serious crime branch investigating the attempted murder of police officers at Rossnareen Avenue, Belfast, on November 26, 2015 have this morning arrested a 29-year-old man.”

He has been taken to Musgrave serious crime suite in Belfast city centre for questioning.

The week before the attack a member of the travelling community was critically injured when he was shot in the head in the same area.

The officers had been part of follow-up operations in Rossnareen Avenue when they were attacked.
