Man killed in motorcyclist collision named locally

The 32-year-old man who died after a crash at around 6.20pm on Saturday has been named locally as Jonny McHugh from Bangor.

The PSNI announced his death on Sunday morning and said that the victim, who had been riding a motorbike, was believed to have struck a telegraph pole.

The accident happened on the Glenariff Road, Glenariff - on the eastern coast of Co Antrim, south of Cushendall.

Tributes have poured in for him on social media.

A friend described him as “a bubbly character and cheeky who always had a smile on his face no matter what was going on around him”.

Inspector Colin Shaw is appealing for witnesses to come forward.

He said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision, or anyone who may have seen a pair of motorcyclists travelling in the direction of Ballymena prior to the time of the collision.”

He said the tragic motorcyclist had been travelling with a friend who was riding a second motorcycle. The second male was not involved in the collision.”
