At one time, few people south of the Border would vote for Sinn Féin due to their links with the IRA and the Northern Ireland conflict.

In fact, many in the South – as well as in the North – saw them as “a party of murderers” and of advocates for murder.

The question must now be asked, however, whether the Labour Party in the Republic is trying, in its own way, to compete with Sinn Féin – or even to replace them – as the “Party of Murderers”.

The latest Labour policy on abortion is so extreme that it would result in the wholesale execution of the most innocent and defenceless – while these are still in their mothers’ wombs.

In fact, more innocent human beings could perish in a single year than perished in the more than thirty years of the Northern Ireland conflict.

Even advocates of capital punishment would argue on the grounds that criminals who commit horrifying crimes should forfeit their right to life – but what possible crime can an unborn child commit?
