Letters: Raising tax allowance would help the low paid

A letter from Joseph Frizzelle

I wonder why, with all the strikes, and the cost of living crisis, the government doesn't raise the personal tax allowance?

A substantial rise would make low-paid jobs more attractive, it would increase workers' spending power, and also mean the taxpayer would no longer have to subsidise stingy employers by topping up low pay with benefits.
