Linfield to honour club's first superstar with service at newly restored grave

​One of Linfield’s greatest ever players is being honoured with a service to mark the unveiling of his newly restored final resting place.

Bob Milne won ten league titles and many more trophies with the Blues after leaving the army to join the club in 1890.

A Scottish-born soldier with the Gordon Highlanders, Milne qualified for Irish citizenship under the five-year residency rule and went on to win 27 caps for Ireland.

He is credited with being the first player to score two penalties in an Irish League match, is Linfield’s 7-1 win over rivals Glentoran in October 1891.

Milne also scored the first ever penalty converted at international level – against Scotland in 1896.

He died in 1932 aged 62.

The special service will take place at his grave in Knockbreda Cemetery (opposite Forestside Shopping Centre) in Belfast at 10am on November 1.
