James Fryers ready to deliver as he prepares for Maxi Hughes '˜battle' at Europa Hotel

James Fryers will face the toughest test of his professional career on Saturday night as he takes on Maxi Hughes in an eliminator for the British title.

Super featherweight Fryers has passed every test to date with flying colours – but Hughes is a totally different prospect to anything Fryers has faced so far in his pro career.

And both fighters know that a win at the Europa Hotel in Belfast will get them within touching distance of fighting for the British title.

And Fryers knows that he will have to bring his A-game to the ring.

“I am expecting 10 tough rounds and I have trained for that,” he said.

“Hughes is a good fighter and he has only been stopped once and that was due to an injury.

“He does not have many knockouts on his record – but he is tough, so I am expecting a battle.

“I have trained very hard for this fight and I know I have to deliver because winning this fight opens doors to other bigger fights.

“I have loads of respect for Hughes but I am confident I will get the job done at the Europa hotel. It is also great to be fighting in Belfast for such an important fight.

“The support has been great and I am looking to put on a show – but the most important thing is to win the fight.”

Hughes insists he has not come over to Belfast to make up the numbers.

“This fight looks good on paper and it is a 50/50 fight but with my experience and the team I have behind me, I believe I will win this fight and move on,” he said.

“Fryers is a good fighter but I am confident I will win the fight. Preparation has gone well and I am ready to go.”

Also on the MHD Promotions in association with A. McLean Bookmakers show James Tennyson 15-1 (12KO) fights Croatia’s Antonio Horvatic.

Tennyson will use this fight as a warm-up for his British title clash against Ryan Walsh.

Paul Hyland Jnr (9-0) faces Jacek Wlyezol of Poland, while Joe Fitzpatrick 3-0 (3KO) is up against Ruslans Burdimuradovs .

Hot prospect Fergal McCrory should get a good workout against the lively and durable Hungarian Peter Mellar over four rounds at lightweight. Tyrone McCullagh 2-0 (2KO) has his first fight on home soil as a professional against Antons Zacets.
