Mid and East Antrim Council Sports Awards launch

Boxing legend Dave '˜Boy' McAuley was in knock-out form at the launch of the inaugural Mid and East Antrim Borough Council Sports Awards.

The former world title Flyweight champion ­ who hails from Larne ­ was joined by Mid and East Antrim Borough Mayor, Councillor Billy Ashe as well as sports presenter Jackie Fullerton who compered the launch event at The Braid in Ballymena.

Also pictured supporting the launch are Claire Taggart, Boccia;s Great Britain National Championships silver medallist and Dianne McMillan, the former Paralympian gold medallist ­ who has just been awarded the MBE for services to swimming and disability awareness

And former IBF World champion McAuley was delighted to be involved with the Awards.

“There is a broad range of categories on offer and I would urge the nomination of outstanding people, be they juniors, veterans, managers or coaches as everyone has a vital role to play in promoting sporting excellence.

“These awards are a great thing and it is great people get recognition.”
