The funeral of tragic former Northern Ireland Supermoto champion Philip Wylie will take place on Tuesday.

Mr Wylie, from Islandmagee, sadly passed away last week after crashing at the final round of the Winter Series at Nutts Corner and sustaining an injury on February 16.

A service of thanksgiving will be held on Tuesday, March 10 in 2nd Islandmagee Presbyterian Church at 1pm and afterwards at Islandmagee New Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers, if desired, to Air Ambulance NI.

British Superbike rider Glenn Irwin was among those who paid tribute to Mr Wylie on social media, writing: “Very saddened to read about the passing of Philip Wylie. A very talented man on 2 wheels but more importantly a gentleman. My thoughts are with his family right now. Rest in peace.”

Supermoto Northern Ireland said: “Everyone at Supermoto NI would like to extend their deepest sympathy to all the Wylie family on the tragic passing of our dear friend Philip.”

Mr Wylie was a member of Whitehead Presbyterian Badminton Club and a statement issued on Facebook said they were ‘shocked and saddened’ by the news.

“Everyone at Whitehead Presbyterian Badminton Club are shocked and saddened at the loss of one of our valued club members, Philip Wylie. Our throughs and prayers are with Catherine, Ross, Anna and the wider family circle. A true gentleman and dear friend to many. Rest in peace Phil.”
