I assume he knows the violent history of the Irish Rebellion and the 30 years of SF/IRA and INLA campaign of murder and destruction against the state of Northern Ireland and against the wishes of the majority and where his government was accused on many occasions for having sympathy with the cause against Northern Ireland.

How does he justify his nation of a free Ireland wanting to be subsumed into a European empire?

I notice he neglected to congratulate unionists for a power-sharing executive. However, he seems to be like many of his thinking that unionists and Britain are the people to blame for all ills.
