Alliance and TUV hit out at IRA flags

Politicians have condemned the erection of flags for D Company of the IRA's 2nd Battalion outside the Millfield campus of Belfast Met.

Alliance MLA Stewart Dickson called on the authorities to “remove these illegal flags immediately”.

The PSNI, Roads Service, Housing Executive and politicians “have a duty to ensure communities are inclusive and welcoming”, he said.

TUV North Belfast Assembly candidate John Miller said the murderers of Jean McConville “are not the sort of people who should be lionised”.

He also queried the current status of the IRA’s D Company.

“Where is the Sinn Fein statement – and, more importantly, action – on this matter?” he added.
