Father of UVF victim wants Foster meeting over Dublin bomb claim

The father of a UVF victim has appealed for a meeting with First Minister Arlene Foster and junior minister Emma Pengelly after claims that the paramilitary grouping involved in his son's murder had been planning a no-warning bomb in Dublin city centre in 1997.

Raymond McCord’s son Raymond Jnr was murdered by the UVF on November 9, 1997 after being lured from his home and taken to a disused quarry in Ballyduff, Newtownabbey where he was beaten to death with concrete blocks. He was 22-years-old at the time of his death.

Mr McCord said: “The documents that have come to light detail who was involved in the planned bombings. And if the Special Branch had not intervened (through agents) the bombs would have gone off. So they stopped a bomb going off in a foreign country but they let my son’s murder take place. He should still be alive today.”

Mr McCord added: “This is more evidence to show how corrupt the system was at a time when the UVF was meant to be on ceasefire. The UVF murdered 31 Protestants after the ceasefire and one of them was my son.”
