Man to stand trial over Co Fermanagh explosives and weapons find

A Co Cavan man charged in connection with a 'significant find of bomb-making material' on the border has been ordered to stand trial.

Barry Francis Joseph Edward Petticrew, of Drumbroghas, Swanlibar, is facing a total of five charges relating to the explosives and weapons uncovered at a farm in Kinawley, Co Fermanagh on October 8, 2014.

Petticrew is charged with possessing explosive substances, namely improvised explosive devices, timer power units, detonating cord, a coffee grinder, explosive filling, a mortar base, fertiliser and other component parts, with intent to endanger life, and possessing these explosive substances in suspicious circumstances.

He is also charged with possessing a number of articles, namely disposable suits, disposable and rubber gloves, dust masks, cutting discs, a glue gun, electrical tape and other items, for use in terrorism.

The 44-year-old is further charged with possessing a quantity of ammunition with intent to endanger life or cause serious damage to property, as well as possessing a pistol under suspicious circumstances.

Petticrew, who has been on remand at Maghaberry Prison for 16 months, appeared in the dock at Fermanagh Magistrates’ Court for a preliminary enquiry.

After he was returned for trial to Belfast Crown Court on a date to be fixed, District Judge Nigel Broderick refused a defence application for bail.
