Paisley quoted UDR file '˜verbatim' - HET

Recent media claims that the late Rev Ian Paisley used a doctored security force document to name suspects in the Kingsmills massacre appear to fly in the face of findings by the HET report of 2011.

In 1999 in Parliament Rev Ian Paisley MP used what he said was “a carefully prepared police dossier” to name local men allegedly involved in the massacre. HET found his comments were “almost verbatim quotes from compiled UDR intelligence material” and did not query the integrity of the document. But it did say his use of it “highlights the dangers of confusing information with valid intelligence”. Then Chief Constable Ronnie Flanagan denied it was a police document but HET said it could be described as such as it was among original papers.
